Abstract
Numerous sources were
accumulated to establish a correlation between incarceration and being
unhoused. Then, sources on the link between substance misuse and being a
justice-involved individual were amassed. Considering theses correlations
predispose a person to become involved with the criminal justice system, the
correlation between being unhoused and substance misuse should be studied to
find methods to decrease the arrest rate of the unhoused and those suffering
from addiction. This noted strain upon the criminal justice system and the
lives of millions of American citizens requires asking the question, “what is
the correlation between experiencing houselessness and substance misuse?” To
determine this correlation, research must be conducted on houselessness,
substance misuse, the link between the two and arrest rate, the causes of the
houselessness and substance misuse, and methods for recovery from both. Within
this research, a correlation but not causation is likely to be found. However,
possible methods of recovery that take this correlation under advisement may be
informed by the research.
Literature review – This formal APA style paper will include at least twenty scholarly sources and be at minimum fifteen pages in length.
