What kind of culture and traditions did your parents and grandparents have, and how much of that was passed on to you?

One of the key themes of Walker’s story is our relationship with tradition and the previous generation. In the story, Dee, through her personality and her education, has become distanced from the culture still maintained by her mother and her sister. She now wants to re-appropriate some of that culture, but from a very different perspective and with a very different purpose than the rest of her family.
For this post, I would like you to reflect on your own connection to the traditions in which you were raised and your parents and grandparents. What kind of culture and traditions did your parents and grandparents have, and how much of that was passed on to you? Do you feel strongly immersed in and connected to that culture still, or have things such as college, your friends, or social media led you away from it? Given how much the world has changed in the last 20 or more years, how is your relationship to that culture different than the previous generation’s?
