For this paper assignment, I’d like you to think about what you have studied so far over the
entire course, and critically examine Psychology’s place in human progress (or lack of
progress). This is a synthesis paper – where your job is to pull together lots of individual threads
of knowledge and experience into a broad generalization around a topic

(a) Briefly summarize the broad history of psychology so far from its inception in prehistoric
times to the present. For example, where it has come from, how has it changed over time,
what methods has it used, and what important knowledge has it has discovered?
(b) Consider psychology’s strengths and weaknesses and critically evaluate psychology’s
history. For example, what has psychology done well, and what has it not done so well?
What kinds of knowledge has been ignored in psychology? What has been the impact of
scientific colonialism and White supremacy in psychology? Take one of the three ethnic
groups discussed in critical perspectives (Black, Latinx, or Indigenous), and discuss the
impact of psychology’s actions or inactions on members of those groups.
