1) What motivated the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War? Analyze the political, social, and economic impacts of the Cold War on the populations of the First and Second Worlds between 1945-1991.
2) What were the tensions between the First, Second and Third Worlds in the post-World War II era? What roles did the US and the Soviet Union play in the Cold War? What were the goals of Third World countries during this period and to what degree where these goals achieved? Using evidence from Chapter 20 (pp. 1017-1019, 1025-1041) and the following readings, On Negritude by Leopod Sedar Senghor (pp. 1050-1051) and On Decolonization by Frantz Fanon (pp. 1051-1053), in your answer discuss how this power relationship was negotiated among the Three-World Order, including between international actors, national governments, and domestic parties.
3) What led to the unprecedented level of globalization in the twenty-first century? Have the benefits of global economic integration been evenly distributed? Who has benefited and who has not?
4) Analyze the causes and effects of the “global war on terror” initiated by President George W. Bush in 2001. What role did this conflict have on the emergence of an Arab Spring in 2010? How was growing Islamic militancy tied into both events?
