What needs to be “cancelled” next? Persuasive Essay

OBJECTIVE: Write a persuasive essay that discusses, scrutinizes, and/or critiques a problematic idea, using some of the positive elements of cancel culture rhetoric and avoiding extreme language, oversimplification of opposing viewpoints, and hasty generalizations as represented in Leonydus Johnson’s article, https://leonydusjohnson.com/2020/07/01/its-time-to-cancel-hood-culture/.
In other words, your goal is not to silence or mute a problematic idea. While you can boycott whatever you wish, the goal of your essay is engagement. Each student will discuss a problematic idea in order to address harmful implications, discuss concessions and exceptions to the rule and advocate for reevaluation, change, revision, or other potential solutions that can help remedy, reconcile or alleviate the effects of problematic ideas. Avoid canceling people (or advocating against canceling people); instead, consider larger issues, themes, tendencies, or behavior patterns that need evaluation.
