The Adams article suggests that extreme homophobia may be caused by people who are actually, secretly gay and their homophobia is a way of covering this up. Do you think this is one motivation for homophobia? Why or why not? What were your reactions to the Adams article?
What other reasons or motivations are there for prejudice against people of other sexual orientations (e.g., religion)? Of the motivations you have identified, which do you think is the most common in people?
Other research has shown that prejudice against gays, lesbians, and bisexuals decreases greatly when people have a friend or family member who is gay or bisexual. Can you think of examples of this from your own life?
