“What percentage of people had no side effects from getting both doses of the Covid vaccine?” You can also divide this into two different age groups if you wish, and we can compare between them. (Maybe below 18 for one group, and 18 and above for the other).

Once you gather that data, we can use it to make a confidence interval (as in chapter 8) to answer the above question.

This project will involve designing, implementing, and analyzing a statistical study. The project will be broken up into steps throughout the course.
Step 1: Pick a topic that you wish to analyze. Your topic should be on something you find interesting. It should also be something that you can gather information about by taking measurements or conducting a survey of some sort. You should gather your own data, either by measurement or questionnaire; It should not be something that you can just look up an answer to online. Some possible questions to consider:
Is there information that you have heard about that you wish to check is actually true? (Are basketball players taller than non-basketball players on average? Are there more red colored M&Ms than any other color in a bag of plain M&Ms? Does bread always land butter side down when it falls and hits the ground?)
Is there information that you have not heard about but want to find out? (How many points does a center score on average in a basketball game? How many M&Ms are inside a king size bag on average? What percentage of these M&Ms are red on average?)
Is there an experiment that you could create to gain information about a topic? (Does drinking an energy drink help a person jump higher? Does performing a focus exercise first increase the number of words a person can memorize in one minute?)
Step 2: Design your study. You will describe what your question is, and how you plan on answering it. You will design any materials needed to gather information (a questionnaire, for example), and then you will post your design ideas on the class forum to gather feedback from your fellow students, as well as from the instructor. Use this feedback to help refine your study.
Step 3: Gather data to answer your question.
Step 4: Write a rough draft of your paper. This should incorporate the work that you have already done in the previous steps. Please see the criteria below for what should be included in the paper. The rough draft will be worth 20 points.
Step 5: Finish your analysis and finalize your paper. The final paper is worth 100 points, broken down in the following categories:
10 points: College-level writing. Your paper should be well-organized and should use correct spelling and grammar, etc.
10 points: Clearly describe what your research question is and why it is important or of interest.
10 points: Clearly describe how your data was gathered. Remember, the more detailed you are, the more easily someone else could replicate your study.
40 points: Analyze your data using correct statistical techniques. This analysis should involve either confidence intervals (Ch 8) or hypothesis testing (Ch 9 and 10).
10 points: Display your data/results in an easily understandable way. Tables, charts, and graphs are great tools.
20 points: Draw a conclusion to your research question based on your data. Also point out any limitations your study may have. What sampling method did you use? Do you think there was bias present in your data? If you or someone else were going to do this study again, is there anything that you would do differently?
