Purpose: This assignment provides the student with the opportunity to incorporate lecture material with the actual study of an established leader. Selection of the leader is the student’s responsibility. This leader can be anyone that is in a leadership role who is charged with the supervision of at least 10 – 20 employees. In order to maximize the learning experience for the student, and to prevent potential biases, the subject of this paper should not be someone with whom the student has had a previous relationship (professional or personal).
Description: Students are asked to identify, set up an appointment at a scheduled time and interview a person in a leadership role. Preferably you

2. Describe this person’s path to leadership.
3. How would this leader describe his/her leadership style?
4. Use of power by the leader
5. Decision-making style of the leader
6. What person or life experience most shaped this person’s philosophy of leadership?
7. What does the leader feel contributes most to his/her success as a leader?
8. In your opinion, what theoretical perspective best describes the leader and his/her overall approach to leading/managing?
9. With the information you have obtained from this leader, what do you think you would like and dislike about working for him/her?
10. Attach a copy of your interview notes. Notes should be what you used during the interview and do not have to be completely legible or typed.
Please be mindful of the following:
• Be mindful of the leader’s time and the possibility of having to cut the interview short because of unexpected work obligations
• Do not interview the same person as others in the class, if at all possible.
Evaluation Criteria
Interview reports will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
1. Inclusion of all requested elements
2. Organization of material
3. Expression of ideas (grammar, punctuation, sentence structure)
4. Expression of honest opinion about your impressions and impact
on your knowledge of leadership
5. Attached interview notes
