COMMUNITY RESOURCE PAPER Directions and Rubric:
Directions:
The purpose of this Community Resource Paper is to assess the actual beliefs and values regarding health and wellness of the population served at the facility you investigate. This paper requires you to visit or to use your own workplace site, if your work place serves people in healthcare or human services.
You will assess the stated and underlying beliefs (seen through organizational policy and practice) of the site under review. regarding the health and wellness of the population served) Underlying beliefs whether stated openly or not will drive the practices and behavior of staff regarding the care of the population served.
You will discover the stated and underlying beliefs through visiting the site, observations and interviewing of a professional or professionals at the site. Even if you work at this site you are to interview a colleague to see how their views may differ from yours. Through observation, your own experiences and the viewpoint of colleagues, you will form an impression and opinion of the attitudes and beliefs found in the program or service center of your choice and how this impacts client/patient care and treatment.
Community Paper Format:
1. Introduction- state name and location of the site, the population served and your role and the role of colleague(s) interviewed.
2. Describe your findings from your own observations and experience. 3. Describe collegial impressions.
4. Describe how the stated mission- purpose of service/treatment varies or is in alignment with the stated mission/purpose from observations and /or experience.
5. What practices/actions did you find that are congruent withe the stated mission/purpose?
6. What practices and staff behaviors are in alignment with the mission/purpose and which are not?
7. Hoe does the mission and actual service, care and treatment of the population served align with your own personal values and beliefs regarding health and wellness.
8. Lastly discuss the strengths and weakness of the program and recommendations for improvement.
Your paper needs to answer all 8 questions.
Your paper is to be a minimum of 3-4 pages in length.
Your paper will include key concepts, theories, and terms learned in this course.
Recommendations will integrate learning from the course.
Possible settings you may visit or work at that qualify as healthcare or service are the following:
Healthcare facility, hospital, clinician, physician’s office (primary care of specialty), all alternative and complementary (CAM) healthcare settings.
YMCA, Daycare, School setting, public or private, after school programs.
Senior Center, Assisted Living, Rehabilitation Facility, Palliative Care, Hospice Care, In-home care and/or service provider, family, child or senior,
Planned Parenthood
Women’s Health Center.
