The purpose of a literature review is to evaluate the existing literature. It establishes the current state of your topic, and helps support the necessity for further research. For example, maybe you found several studies on the same topic that came to different conclusions, meaning that the definitive study has yet to be done. Maybe there is no research directly on your topic, only on issues that are tangentially related to your topic. Literature reviews generally include substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological contributions to a particular topic. In other words, tell the reader about what has been studied, what they concluded, and what it means for your own research. How did the researcher choose their research sample? What research method was used, and how was it evaluated? What problems did the encounter and how did they solve them?
