his week your sole assignment is to dive into the textbook and become familiar with the language that is used in it and write a 5-paragraph essay based on the prompts below. Words carry meaning, and some words embody sensitive topics. It is important that we start out the semester collectively and individually, understand the meanings of key terms used in the book that centers around the 4 Anti-Bias Education (ABE) goals.

The Objectives of this Assignment
For students to become familiarized with the key terms in our textbook and the four goals of Anti-Bias Education and have a better understanding of what they stand for.
By having the opportunity to individually review and reflect upon their meaning, students can be better prepared to work in both the collective and individual spheres within this course. The terms will be referred to many times over the semester and it is important that the class moves together in a collective, unfolding the learning amidst very personal topics that may be challenging to read, write, watch, and/or reflect upon.
Directions
Read and review the Key Terms from the Glossary in our 2nd edition textbook, found on pages 182-186, and the Four Core Goals of Anti-Bias (ABE) Education, found on page 5 pg of our 2nd ed. textbook.
Identify any key terms that are new to you and indicate what the 4 ABE goals are. Please remember that this is an essay and so you shouldn’t be just listing information. Consider including what you thought some terms meant before, but now as you read them, you are discovering their correct meaning.
Write about what terms/goals make you feel uncomfortable or strike a personal chord (positive or negative) with you that you can elaborate on. Include if you ever heard about the 4 ABE goals? What purpose do you believe that the goals serve? Why should ABE even be a part of equity conversations in education?
Include a Reference Page. Since this is an essay, ANYTHING that you are taking and using verbatim, you MUST cite in the paper itself. Please remember to list all your sources on a Reference page (on its own page at the end) in APA format (Links to an external site.). Remember that sources that you use to develop your paper, even if you are putting it into your own words, must also be cited and listed.
Grading
30 pts: Your in-depth reflective and authentic content should be based on the prompts above.
10 pts: Your standard 5-paragraph essay should be written in the 7th edition APA formatting style which, in addition to proper formatting, also includes a Title page, Abstract, and Reference page (each of these items is on their own pages).
