As we begin our class, we are in the middle of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. It remains to be seen how active the season will be or even IF we will receive a devastating tropical cyclone on our shores this year but we have already seen a number of named storms and are up to the letter F in the naming sequence. As our class begins, there is a potential impact of a tropical cyclone in the U.S. After watching the video on the 2019 hurricane season and reading the NOAA report on Hurricane Michael, complete a class “case study” paper on Michael in the format described in the course Syllabus, making sure to follow APA formatting. From the Syllabus, here is what you will address:
Describe the disaster. Briefly tell what happened.
What is the geographic environment or setting?
What was the impact of the disaster: Human lives/casualties, property, etc.
What was the degree of disaster awareness and preparedness?
What was learned from this event?
How was the population/community changed because of this disaster?
What recommendations would you make to improve preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation of similar types of emergencies/disasters in the future?
