Overview
This module examines mental health disorders that predominantly affect the
older adult population but will discuss the relevance across a life span. It
will highlight that dementia is not a part of the normal aging process. Examine
lifestyle choices that can impact the mental health status for patients. There
will be empathy discussions and teaching for the students as well the ability
to be able to teach to patients and patient support systems.
Answer the following questions:
1. Have
you ever experienced delirium or had symptoms that you think might be
comparable?
2. What
was the experience? Do you think the same encounter might have impacted you
differently if you were an older adult?
3. What
role did sleep, alcohol consumption, infection, excessive stimuli or other
