Think about your own relationship to food. Do you remember any traditional
family recipes? What does food mean to you, your family, your culture, and your ethnic identity? What is the dominant cultural view of your food? Please
include your own personal experiences in your response to ONE of the two
questions below.
1). How do Luz Calvo and Katriona Rueda Esquibel define “decolonizing” food
and how does this definition relate to David Chang’s, Dawn Mabalon’s, or Aileen
Suzara’s interpretation of how food, colonialism/racism, and culture
interconnect.
2). What role does racism play in the mainstream representation of Asian ethnic
food? How have different communities responded to racism through their
relationship with food? Focus on one of the readings or listening/viewing
assignments.
