Take some time to observe the space around you. This can be at your home, a friend or relative’s home, or even your workplace. Spend time really exploring these areas. While there are no official right or wrong answers in this exercise, you can notice and become more secure at home. This also mimics the type of thing you’ll be doing in the workplace as you learn about what kinds of devices exist in new environments.
Self-reflect on the smart devices in your environment, and answer the following questions as best as possible.
Q1-What smart devices do you already know you use? Think of wearable devices, home security devices, home automation, etc.
Q2-Do you have any devices that you didn’t think of as smart devices? Think about TVs, appliances, toys, gaming consoles, etc.
Q3-Do you have devices with smart capabilities that you don’t use? Think about anything that may be connected to your network that you don’t pay much attention to.
Q4-Do you know how or if these devices are secured? Think about whether they receive updates? Are these devices connected to the internet?
Q5-What opportunities are there for improving the security posture within your space?
