Utilizing the concepts and theories that you are learning in this class, your will write a five-page essay that describes and evaluates the impact and consequences of your chosen disaster. You should address in your paper some of the most relevant social aspects of disaster discussed in this course (see list of issues below), as well as the theoretical frameworks that enable us to understand this particular event.
How did the disaster impact the community?
Were some categories of people impacted more than others? How?
What social aspects of disaster (and issues) did you find most interesting in your research?
What theories (social construction, social vulnerability, political/economic) help us understand this particular disaster?
This paper must include an APA style cover and reference page and the body of the paper must include APA style in-text citations. The paper should have an introduction and a conclusion with at least 5 full pages of text (not including cover and reference page). The paper must be doubled-spaced with 12-point Times New Roman font. It must contain at least four reputable references and be submitted in MS Word or pdf format.
