Patient Education Handout/Brochure
Patient Education Strategies for Assisting Cancer Patients with Nutrition-Related Side Effects
One of the nursing roles is to provide education to patients and to help them manage the issues they are having as they go through cancer treatment. What suggestions can you offer your patient/client who is experiencing nausea or vomiting, taste alterations, diarrhea, etc….? Remember that maintaining nutrition status during cancer treatment is an important aspect of their survival.
After reading Chapter 21, think about the tips that you could tell your patients/clients to educate them on ways to manage the side effects they experience. You may be able to use some of the information online for dealing with gastrointestinal issues.
For Module 5 Clinical Application, you will be creating a 1-2 page patient, education handout using information from Chapter 21.
Using a format that you choose (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc….) Create a 1-2 page education handout providing education addressing strategies that would be useful for a cancer patient experiencing nutrition-related side effects. The handout can include pictures (but does not have too) Be creative. The handout should not be an essay, patients can be overwhelmed with too much information. Think about each nutritional problem that cancer patients can experience and what you can tell them to help improve or manage the issues they are having. Include useful/practical tips that the client/patient can implement.
Any sources used other than the textbook must be properly cited in APA format.
Note: I will link Chapter 21 in the files. Please use that as one of your sources. You are allowed to use 1-2 other sources if you need to.
