4. Write a research paper which critically examines, integrates, and qualifies research on the significance of gender and substance abuse. What type of responses do you think the United States should make in order to reduce participation in substance use/abuse? Your paper should adhere to the following structure:
A 125- to 250-word introduction, telling the reader the purpose of the paper and the importance of the issue. Essentially, you should have a purpose statement similar to, “The criminal justice system should…because research indicates that….”.
750- to 1,000 words discussing the research that is relevant to your issue, answering the question, “What are the major findings of research in this area?” It is not simply a summary of the research, but comprehensive synthesis and summary, including a discussion of the “bigger picture.” Structure the paper around the main findings, main points, e.g., “some research has indicated that…however not all studies have found this.” Or another example, “The discrepancy may be due to different samples used in the studies or….”
500-words discussing the implications of the body of research for one or more areas of the law or government (e.g., laws, policies, trials, protections).
A 125- to 250-word conclusion, summarizing your main points.
