For this discussion post, I want you to think about factors that contribute to trauma in middle childhood.
First – Discuss the development of resilience (or independence, or wisdom) in children.
What types of experiences are likely to promote resilience (or independence, or wisdom) during middle childhood?
What experiences are likely to disrupt the development of resilience (or independence, or wisdom)?
Next – Think through how much blame, or credit, parents deserve for their children’s development.
Do parents really matter?
Is it always better for children to be raised in a “nuclear family”?
What role do you think parents play in children’s development during this time?
Then – Think through why bullying of children seems to be happening so often.
Do you believe is it true that such events are more common today?
Thinking about the various levels of prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary), what steps can be taken to prevent bullying in schools?
Finally – reply to ONE other student – commenting on EACH of these 3 topic areas when you provide a thoughtful response.
