Hello Jeanene,
I enjoyed reading your post and appreciate your mention of collaborative care contributing to the importance of legislative and technological advancement in healthcare. According to the American Psychological Association (2021), there is an emphasis on the part of the psychologist specifically to be familiar with record keeping guidelines. The state and federal government are also involved to ensure that the maintenance of appropriate records through the “Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct”. The American Psychological Association in its guidelines specified the importance of psychologists familiarizing themselves with both the legal and ethical requirements for record keeping in their specific professional contexts and jurisdictions. However, these guidelines are not intended to describe these requirements fully or to provide legal advice. In the event of a conflict between these guidelines and any state or federal law or regulation, the law or regulation in question supersedes these guidelines.
A study conducted at an addiction center in Germany utilized an interactive documentation system Tele-Board MED (TBM) which was developed as an adjunct to therapy sessions aimed at enhancing the therapeutic alliance and patient empowerment . The therapist could identify benefits including the technological advantages of quick access to worksheets in both individual and group sessions. The study revealed that clients were more likely to use the system with the expectation of improved communication and recall of discussed topics (Perlich et al. 2018).
Thank you for sharing Jeanene.
