Before you begin writing, think about the following questions:
A. What was important to you about the experience?
B. What did you learn from it?
C. How did it change you?
D. How would you reply to a reader who asked “So what?”
Remember that a good narrative includes the following:
A. an introductory paragraph that prepares the reader for the story by describing the setting or the scene and the characters;
B. believable characters that engage the reader’s interest;
C. interesting details that put the reader in the story, such as sights, sounds, tastes, smells, etc. It may also include limited dialogue that makes the story come alive;
D. a conflict or problem to solve;
E. a series of events that lead to a climax. The events are described in a way that draws the reader in and makes the reader want to continue reading;
F. a concluding paragraph that clarifies a point, message, or theme for the reader.
Remember that a narrative is typically told in chronological order. Do not confuse your readers by jumping around in your narrative.
