What was the purpose of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and how did they attempt to accomplish their goals?

Reminder: Please do not respond to these questions until you’ve read the book and my note about its perspective in the Dixie’s Daughters module under Content.
Choose one of the questions below and respond (if all of the questions are taken, make sure that your response is still unique). Put the question you’re responding to in the title of the an initial post to reserve your spot. Then, reply to that same post with your initial long post.
When you post your two replies to your peers later, make sure at least one of those replies is to a post about a different question from the one you answered.
1. What was the purpose of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and how did they attempt to accomplish their goals? Provide historical examples of at least two different kinds of activities the UDC was involved in and carefully explain how the UDC used those activities to carry out its intended goals.
2. What was the Lost Cause, and how did it emerge? What role did the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) play in maintaining the Lost Cause? How did the UDC attempt to develop a pro-Lost Cause/pro-Confederate culture?
3. Why were monuments to important to the UDC and what purpose did they fulfill? How and why were children so central to the UDCs monument building efforts?
4. How did the UDC view the role of historical interpretation and writing? How did they attempt to influence the field of history?
5. How have the efforts of the UDC affected later generations (children of the 1950s, us, etc)?
General Instructions:
Each question can have a maximum of 7 initial posts in response to it. So pick a question with less than 7 answers before you start writing. Here’s the tricky part with this one. When you decide which question to pick, please make an initial post with the title of the question and nothing else. That essentially holds your spot while you write and let’s people know how many people are working on a particular question at once.
