During the week, start & finish reading:
A) Edward Hirsch’s “How to Read a Poem.” It has 16 linked sections — together they form the first chapter of his free book sample @ https://www.poetryfoundation.org/articles/69955/how-to-read-a-poem If the link does not automatically open, please copy it and place in your browser and click search.
At the site notes, its “16 sections provide strategies for reading poems, and each section has plenty of links to examples of poems in our archive to illustrate the points.”
B) Read the POEM PACKET 1 (whole of it) and also visit and read as many of the poems as you can from http://www.poetsreadingthenews.com/. Post by July 13 (which will count as our Final Exam) the following: Discuss what your Two Favorite Poems from the Poem Packet are and also what your Two Favorite Poems from “Poets Reading the News” are. What were the most distinctive poetry elements that these chosen Four Poems (altogether) of yours showed (as discussed by Edward Hirsch above)? How so? Minimum is 900 words by July 13 before midnight.
