What were the most important positive and negative consequences of James Madison’s actions as president? Do not try to address everything Madison did as president. Instead, focus only on what you consider his most important actions and their consequences. Choices can may vary wildly, but in each case, focus on specific actions and their consequences. In addition to pointing out the particular actions, present a coherent argument as to why these actions were of such importance and why they resulted in the consequences you describe.
Write a compelling paper (of at least 2 double-spaced pages in length) that both sets forth your argument and gives its reader sufficient evidence to its claim. The font should be 12-point Times New Roman, the margins should be one inch, and the line spacing should be double throughout. The style should be formal, meaning that you avoid first person perspective, contractions, and colloquialisms. Please see syllabus and grading rubric for ideas about how to improve your score on later assignments. The paper must be submitted both through the Turnitin.com link and the standard submission link. Failure to do so will result in a 10 percent penalty per day that one or both are overdue.

All sources should be cited using Chicago-style footnotes, and the paper should include a works cited page listing the sources you used. Avoid using online sources unless their URL ends in .gov or .edu. Textbooks, including our own; documentaries; and encyclopedias are also weak sources that should be avoided.
