In Ch. 6, “Listening, Feedback, and Critical Thinking,” many facets of listening behaviors are discussed. What were times where you or someone in your life listened in a way that made you feel good? What about times where you or someone else could have improved your listening skills? How about a time when you or someone else did a downright terrible job of listening, to the point that someone’s feelings could have been hurt?
If you can, identify one of each of these listening situations (the Good, the Bad and the Ugly), using either your own behavior or that of another person (keep them pseudonymous if it’s an embarrassing story [e.g., use a fictitious name]).
As always, work in our textbook terms. There are sections on the stages of listening (p. 145), problematic listening behaviors (p. 147), feedback (p. 149), and more.
After reading Chapter 6, please respond critically to the questions. Initial posts are due by the end of the day on Tuesday (11:59 pm).
