Cognizing humans’ addictive nature and health hazards,
should a Christian work for a tobacco company?
·
I do not necessarily see the repercussions of
working at a tobacco plant and it being a bad thing for a Christian. God gave
us the freedom to choose what to do. Sadly, those choices are tough but working
at a plant that gives you the benefit of providing for your family and helping
you get by in daily life then its fine to me. God wants us to provide. For us
to provide for our family through this way is tough but is okay in my view.
Why does regulation tend to reduce competition in
industries?
·
Between two competitive companies dealing with
regulation is a risky game. If a company can does not afford it they must be
shut down. Another scenario is that they must not be caught and that will also
end in being shut down. In the end regulation ends competition by shutting down
the competitor.
Should companies be required to give six months’ notice and
outplacement services before they outsource jobs and shut down a plant?
·
I think they should because it helps the
employees settle everything on their end. For a company that is in a transition
like this it I would think as a ceo to think of your employees first. As a
Christian you should always look to take care of others and most importantly
your employees. Six months gives your employees plenty of time to get into a
new job elsewhere.
When a company focuses solely on the bottom line, what type
of behavior is encouraged among its employees?
·
I would say very selfish between everyone
because they only think about themselves and most importantly the end result.
The employees will not think about the company first but will only think for
themselves when it comes to work.

Recognizing humans’ addictive nature and health hazards,
should a Christian work for a tobacco company?
·
This is a very good question but ultimately, I
believe that it is one that can be easily answered. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says,
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in
you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;” In the modern
world that we live in we know that smoking cigarettes and the use of tobacco
can cause severe negative effects on the body including cancer. Christians
should want to do what they can to keep a healthy body. Overall, I do not
believe that Christians should work for tobacco companies.
Why does regulation tend to reduce competition in
industries?
·
Regulation creates a broad arena of policies,
some of which can keep certain companies from the market. By creating certain
“rules”, some companies may not be able to meet specific qualifications. I do
believe that there should be some regulation.

Should companies be required to give 6 months’ notice and
out-placement services before they outsource jobs and shut down a plant?
·
I do believe that companies should be required
to do this, however, this can be difficult for some companies to do. Some
companies may need to immediately let employees go to save money but before
shutting the plant down I do think that there should be a notice to allow
people to look for other jobs so that they aren’t in a financial pickle.
When a company focuses solely on the bottom line, what type
of behavior is encouraged among its employees?
·
When a company focuses solely on the bottom
line, they tend to forget about to workers that make the company work. I have
worked for a couple of companies that did just this and the treatment of the
workers was poor, to say the least. Companies need to remember that workers are
the heartbeat of any company and that without them the company would fail. Employee
appreciation instead of taking shortcuts to make as much money as possible will
lead to a better and more respected company.
