Cognitive Development
Description: Observations are fluid. Due to the nature of an
observation, you may or may not see certain items transpire within that
specific viewing of the child. In order to take that into the consideration,
you will need to watch the video(s) more than once. This will give you
enough of a range of time and cushion to observe specific details outlined
below.
When observing the student, use the Field
Notes to capture your observations. Use your field notes to help support you
when writing this paper as you will not remember everything you will watch if
you write the paper at a different time. Using the field notes are not
mandatory. It is just a tool to support you. You may take notes in any manner
you see fit.
Task:
· Observe student (s).
· Talk a little bit about the class you are
observing (describe the environment, what the children are doing, how many
teachers, the way the classroom is set up).
Which of Piaget’s stages
do you believe the student(s) is(are) currently in (they might be between
stages- talk about both)? How do you know? What does Piaget say about this
stage(s)? Don’t forget to cite your sources from the textbook and varying
scholarly sites. What does the child do to demonstrate the stage they are
currently in?
Write the child appearing
to learn something new. How did that go? Are they receptive to learning?
Excited about learning?
What kinds of things does
your child know and know how to do? Are they on grade level?
What kind of learner is
your child? Which of Gardner’s multiple intelligences does he/she seem to
be gifted with?
Compare your child with
another. How do their cognitive abilities differ? How are they the same?
Scoring:
This assignment
should be minimum 3 full pages typed, double spaced, with
APA formatting.
This assignment
is worth 10 full points (4 points for 3 citations, 4 points for APA formatting,
2 points for length). This is a PAPER. Please do not just respond to the
bullets. It should be written as a paper. Let the questions guide your
responses.
