Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
A 58-year-old woman is being treated for CML. She has done a lot of reading and has some questions about her chemotherapy. She is being treated with a tyrosine kinase inhibitor called Gleevec (also known as Imatinib). She has a friend who comes in for treatment at the same time who also has CML but is not receiving that drug. She is concerned about the different drug choices. Your patient is Philadelphia chromosome positive, but her friend is not.
