Which side of the conflict did the federal government support?

During the late nineteenth century, Americans encountered conflict on various fronts. The federal government intervened in the conflict between capital and labor and conflicts in the American West. In this essay you will analyze one of these conflicts (capital vs. labor or the West).
Your essay should include the following sections:
Introduction
What caused the conflict? Who was involved?
National Interest
How was the conflict relevant to the national government?
Choosing Sides
Which side of the conflict did the federal government support? What was the result of this support? Was the conflict settled? Why or why not?
Interpretation
Which side (if any) do you think the government should have supported? Explain your reasoning. What do you think would’ve happened if the government didn’t get involved?
Primary Source
Choose one primary source from The American Yawp that is relevant to the conflict discussed in your essay. Summarize the source and discuss how it illustrates some aspect of the conflict and/or the government’s response.
Your essay should be around 1000 words. You may draw on evidence from The American Yawp and sources/discussions from class. Do not use any outside sources. Be sure to consult the rubric below before beginning this project.
