First complete the action cards and than start with the biographical essay, design and produce a physical (i.e. not just digital) action card/playing card profiling the person that you researched for your essay! Draw/design/create their image on one side of a 5 x 8” cue-card, and on the back, list three or four of the person’s most important attributes that other students absolutely need to know about them. Below that, what’s their ‘superpower’?.

One of the most important skills in social science is formal academic writing: articulating a clear argument and developing that argument through clear, concise and logically organized writing that is based on up-to-date, relevant evidence. This short essay asks you to choose an influential postcolonial scholar/thinker/doer and write a biographical essay about them. Why are the writings, actions, art, or poetry, of your chosen individual important for students of global change to understand? What motivated them? What were their most important contributions? What can we learn about the making of the modern/colonial world from the life and work of these intellectuals and activists? We will discuss in more detail in class.
The essay should be 750 to 1000 words (double spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt font + bibliography).
