Why get married?

Why get married? As noted in this unit, many couples are choosing to form intimate relationships and cohabitation without getting married. As such, these couples side-step the legal constraints-and benefits- of the marriage bond. Moreover, social attitudes seem to be softening. This lifestyle option, once wholly rejected, is now tolerated by many and applauded by some. Use “Break It Down,” “Hills Like White Elephants,” “Marriage,” or “The Ruined Maid,” as well as personal experience and observations to write an argument in response to this question: “Why get Married?”
