Genetically modified plants, and genetically modified organisms in general, have been the subject of much debate. While the potential of genetic engineering (and today, genetic editing) is quite significant, whether performing such procedures is very much up to questioning. This is particularly true for genetic editing in humans, where the CRISPR technique could be a game-changer when it comes to correcting inherited diseases or genetic mutations, but the major question about changing the genetics of any organism is whether it should be done in the first place.
In this forum, we will discuss the genetic modification of plants. Address the following questions in your initial post:
What are three possible benefits of genetically modifying plants?
Why is genetic modification of plants considered to be easier than genetic engineering of animals?
What are two questions critics have of genetic engineering of plants?
Given the benefits and the risks of genetic engineering of plants, are you in favor or against the genetic engineering of plants?
