First Nations Women Study Class
Final Paper
1100-1500 words , APA format, font times roman size 11 or 12
Pick 1 topic of interest you would like to write about:
1. Compare and contrast the uneven energy developments on First
Nations land versus private corporations and the social consequences for women.
2. Speak about the power relations when it comes to natural
resource development (both from a patriarchal position and from the
industrialized place of development).
3. Expand on the “post” assignment from week 3’s class
– and highlight three – six significant Indigenous women leaders that
have made a positive impact on the environment (think creatively – this impact
could be in the form of arts, health, medicines, protection, etc.)
4. How can TEK be realistically applied to environmental
planning or natural resource development (e.g. think of clean energy – smaller
projects?)
5. How can Indigenous
women best provide environmental leadership to the next generation of women?
6. Why is it important to understand how men and women think
differently about economic strategies, and how does this understanding better
position development that places the environment first?
7. Indigenous health and wellness is dependent on a healthy
environment, inclusive of culture and language revitalization.
Acknowledging this, what steps can Indigenous women environmental leaders make
to ensure we are heading in this direction for future generations. This
question could explore examples of success stories in BC and
beyond.
