Why Reconstruction Was A Failure

Reconstruction was an era of failure for African Americans when slavery came to an end but after the Civil War when slavery came to an “end” The United States administrations sought to reconstruct society by establishing and protecting the legal rights of the newly freed black population but that was not the case. Although people see the Reconstruction as a success, Reconstruction failed to protect the rights of newly-freed people because white southerners continued to mistreat African Americans, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), and the black codes. The way the white Southerners who were opposed to it effectively used acts of violence against the African Americans to gain political power and force uncommitted white Southerners to their side I do also see why people may think that the Reconstruction was a success being that a lot of people are the people that don’t have to deal with the white southerners or also like the KKK people are not seeing how it affects the African Americans. The KKK is a group of mostly white men that hate the African Americans they would use
