How people write about the history of electronic media matters. But what deserves recognition or a place in this history and why? To answer this question, you will draw from assigned course materials along with your own research using at least two (2) total peer-reviewed resources provided by The Library at UC San DiegoLinks to an external site.. Then you will develop an arguable thesis that draws from any of the course concepts or theoretical frameworks addressed in at least two but no more than four of the assigned course materials for Summer Session II. You should also consider this history within at least one of the following contexts: social, cultural, economic and/or technological. Social and cultural in this case account for dimensions of race, gender, socioeconomic status, class, identity, ability, and/or linguistic difference.
Choose one entertainment program, one media company, or one media product (historical or contemporary) associated with the forms of electronic media that we are exploring this summer. Then analyze the history of your chosen program, company, or product through a lens that incorporates theory and context. Aim to unpack the following questions:
What makes this program, company, or product historically significant and why?
How do you know this? That is, what evidence do you have to support or validate this program, company, or product’s historical significance?
