I am a soon-to-be Junior in NYU, aiming to get the spot for study away program to Yonsei University in South Korea for a semester. I am currently serving my country as an Air Force In South Korea and I intend to return for the Fall 2022. First of all, the guideline for the essay is
What motivated you to apply?
Why you have applied or expressed interest in this particular school, country, as well as the courses you intend to enroll in?
How will this impact your career goals?
What will this program provide you that you can’t obtain through an NYU study away site?
Some background information about me
– I was born and grew up most of my life in the United States
– I struggled with the hiearchical relationship in the military, had language barrier, and had mild depression
– I overcame those and will be soon discharged in May 2022
– I had the option to withdraw my Korean citizenship and be free of military duty but I chose to enlist so that I can keep my dual citizenship (korea and U.S)
– I am fairly interested in the food industry in Korea
– I major in Economics and any buisness-related idea or vision would be nice
In the essay, I wish:
1. include how the 2-year military service has changed me, or my values and how it made me want to apply for this program
2. compelling reason (military and career) that I must be in South Korea.
3. Reference to any novel or fiction that may align with what I went through in the military (optional)
These are my prefered courses:
– They are not actual courses that I am going to take if I were to get in, but are my interest. You can pick upto 3~4 (2 if you are going for quality over quantity) to talk about them
– I want to be seen enlighten by the experiences I had at the military and at the same time seen ambitious about my career. I want a mixture of my military experience and career ambition. You can weigh on one over another if it seems more appealing and entertaining.
