In this video Dr. Lorek mentions you will get a topic via email. That is not the case for this course, you may choose a table on whatever topic you would like. You can search for a topic you are interested in the search bar on the statistical abstract page and that will pull up all tables related to the topic. I just searched “Covid” and 4 interesting tables showed up- one based on higher ed.

Where does data come from? This week each student will choose a statistical table produced from the most recent statistical abstract (see the video tutorials to locate the data and tables!) You will report the detailed characteristics of the survey and a selected finding from the statistical table chosen (Labor Force Statistics)
The report should include:
1. Your name
2. Name of the survey
3. Agency or organization collecting the data and/or data program it is part of.
4. Purpose of the data collection.
5. Year(s) in which the data was collected.
6. Details about how data is collected and who the respondents are.
7. Visualize the data or parts of it by using excel to create one chart.
8. Write a paragraph discussing a particular finding (citing statistical evidence; exact numbers/percentages) from the statistical table chosen by you. Explain how the findings would relate to a workplace issue or a research question.
9. Are there any limitations to this data? What questions cannot be answered using the data presented in the table?
10. Reference/ links to a sample questionnaire and the statistical table (if available).
