World Citizenship

The discipline I study is called “Global Migration: Challenges and Dilemmas”. Our professor is a well-known
person that researches the topics of global citizenship, digital governance and migration. We have just finished
the condensed course of 4 days that covered 14 !!! topics. These topics are all mentioned in the sylabus that is
attached to these instructions. (All the articles mentioned in the syllabus I have downloaded and can send).
The professor asked me to write about the world citizenship after I told him that I have world citizen passport. He was very excited about it, but didn’t give me any specific guidelines on this topic.
I still don’t have a research question and an abstract, but I have a few ideas on it. But before I will make some
important notes:

1. Our papers are checked by teaching assistant who doesn’t have relation to our academia as she lives and
works in another country. Her way of grading the papers I would call very harsh as sometimes she deducts point without any obvious reason. “Feedback.pdf” file contains the last paper I did and her comments. These comments might help to understand the way she thinks more or less.

2. Our professor usually doesn’t read our papers but in my case he promised that he will do it. That’s why it is
very important to put a specific Research Question and to give a precise and reasonable answer.

3. I know that beside argumentation my professor likes when we include word DILEMMA and elaborate on it in our papers.

4. With regard to the research question, this is what I think about!

In the world there is an organization of the World Service Authority, which issues passports of citizens of the
world on the basis of Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. More than 100,000 people in the
world have received these passports, including Barack Obama! Nevertheless, this passport is still more a
souvenir, but not a real document. Despite the fact that its creation is based on the universal declaration of
human rights!

Expanding the topic, it would be nice to talk about how the World Service Authority appeared, who was behind its appearance and why, how many analogues of WSA are there in the world? (Like Liberland or Global Citizen
Forum)? Under what laws does this organization operate? Why are there only 8 countries in the world that accept this passport as a full-fledged document, while other countries (especially democratic ones – America and all EU countries) do not accept it. What is the conflict of laws and how is it explained?
How can digitalization and the introduction of new technologies change the concept of state sovereignty and
can, in principle, bring such a phenomenon as world citizenship closer?
Some main topics might be chosen from the syllabus and used in the paper but it is not necessary.

Possible research questions are:
– Why world citizenship passport can not be used as a travel document in most countries?
– World citizenship passport as an example of how border laws of democratic countries restrict universal human rights and freedoms
