Cultural humility paper—Engaging diversity and difference Signature Assignment
Describe your cultural identities, selecting one to three identities that are most important to you, and describe how they shape your experiences.
Describe how you can make space for letting others name their own identities or be experts of their own experiences. For example, how can you be open to your coworkers’ and clients’ different identities, how can you acknowledge their multiple and concurrent identities, how will you acknowledge and respect their expertise, etc.? Include how you see your strengths and weaknesses supporting your plan or hindering it.
Describe your initial assessment of your practicum’s institutional-level cultural humility. For example, how does your practicum’s culture respect coworkers’ and clients’ identities and experiences? How does the culture encourage respectful, substantive discussions about power, difference, oppression, etc.?
What practice behaviors can you engage in that actively challenge power imbalances at your practicum site and/or classroom? What are the consequences (risks and rewards) of engaging in these practice behaviors?
What opportunities do you have to extend your responsibility beyond individual clients and advocate for change at local, state, and national levels?
