Write a Formal Analysis of any ONE three-dimensional (not two-dimensional) object that you see every day (not an artwork). Objects can be located inside or outside.
For example: book, car, lamp, fan, plant, etc.
A minimum of TEN Formal Analysis terms should be used. However, successful papers will use far more. All terms can be found in the Formal Analysis Handout (Canvas > Files > Formal Analysis Paper). Do not use any outside research sources.
This is your personal analysis, not a narration or reflection, which means you are not telling a story, explaining why the object is important to you, or how it functions.
A good analysis will describe the object piece by piece in clear and concise descriptive sentences. Think about how you would describe the object to someone who has never seen it before.
Do not reveal the name of the object until the last sentence of your paper. Refer to the object within your paper as: object, item, thing, etc.
Rather than saying I/me/my/you/your, use these words: viewer or observer
450 to 500 words (word count does not include your name, assignment name, or date)
* Do not exceed the Word Count. *
• Note the word count at the end of your text as: Word Count: 476
• Default black ink
• No titles, header or footer, page numbers, or borders
• Times New Roman 12-point font (no bold or underlined words EVER)
• One-inch margins on all four sides
• Double-spaced text with no additional or extended spaces
Spell Out: small numbers (3 to three), abbreviations (info to information), and contractions (didn’t to did not)
• NEVER use the following words: I, me, my, you, your, we, us
• Avoid “throw away” words (very, really, kind of, like, etc.)
• Response to the writing prompt is thorough, clear, concise, and accurate
