you will be explaining a laboratory technique that you have practiced in lab. You will be writing a lab procedure for students who have never been in a science lab, never worked with laboratory equipment, and never properly taken measurements. I am looking for you to be as detailed and as descriptive as possible. It does not have to be paragraph style and can mimic the step by step procedure you have been given in the lab pdfs all semester. I am looking for you to include details like how to determine the sig figs, how to properly record measurements, how to properly read the volume of a graduated cylinder without introducing parallax error, the proper equations to use etc. (These are all things we have talked about all semester long). Also consider that someone who has never been in a lab will not know how to operate the balances so your procedure should contain a description of how to use the balance and which digits to keep. There is no minimum length requirement but you should strive to be as detail oriented as possible.
Density is a concept we should all be very comfortable with. If you are given a metal cylinder and asked to determine the cylinder’s density, you should have a few ideas about information needed. 1) You know that you would need to obtain the mass of the cylinder 2) You know that you need to obtain the volume of the cylinder. Since the object is a cylinder, the volume can be determined by displacement OR using the mathematical equation V=r2h.
Write a highly detailed, procedure for determining the density of a metal cylinder. Your procedure should include BOTH methods of determining the volume (displacement and measuring/calculating).
