Write a Literature Review on Behavioral and Mental Health in Rural Communities. Health and behavioral health in our communities
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to collect and analyze existing health and/or behavioral health data in specific areas represented in this class. For example, if a student is in Louisiana, the health data in that specific area will be used. If a student lives in Houston, that health data can be used – it must be relevant to your specific work context. There are many different “big data” sets available. These data sets are specific to different types of health issues. For example, there is data on diabetes, obesity, HIV/AIDS and of course, now Covid-19. This research study will assist students to develop a better understanding of the quality of life and how it is impacted by health and behavioral health.
Anticipates Objectives
Analyze data by focusing on one specific issue as it relates – health and/or mental health
Use the results to describe the health and/or mental health
Use the data to develop comprehensive strategies to address health and/or mental health
Use the information to develop a multi-level evaluation program for health and/mental health
Literature reviews
Under this specific topic your literature reviews should include but it is not limited to the following:
Health and behavioral health contextualization
Social determinants of health
Population health – conceptualization and how it relates to health/behavioral health
Current data on health/behavioral health – for example, COVID data, obesity, depression, suicide, mental health in general (This has to be relevant to your specific topic)
Community change, impact and revitalization – conceptualization
Social work as part of the inter-professional team
Holistic treatment of patients and clients (individual, family)
Access to health and behavioral health services
Theoretical frameworks as it relates to micro-, mezzo and macro-practice – as relevant to your specific topic
Barriers to quality of life as it relates to health and behavioral health
Treatment specific to health and behavioral health (for example Hospice, substance abuse treatment, dialysis – all how it relates to social work)
Social and economic capital in communities
The importance of community-based health and behavioral health (Health Resource Centers)
Social, economic and environmental justice in a community
Make sure you link your literature review to the Grand Challenges of Social Work. You may have to select one or two only.
In terms of your specific topic, you can select any one of these sub-topics – you must develop a comprehensive strategy/strategies to address health and behavioral health
Prevalence of a specific health issue and the impact on quality of life on individuals/families – for example, diabetes, cancer, obesity, HIV/AIDS
Prevalence of specific mental/behavioral health issue and the impact on quality of life on individuals/families – for example opioid use, depression, PTSD
Patient navigation support
Health Resource centers health/behavioral health
Patient and caregivers – relationships, fatigue, strengths, barriers to care
Specific social determinants of health and the impact on patients and caregivers (economic stability, education access and quality, health care and access and quality, neighborhood and built environment, social and community context)
