Write a narraive essay about an experience in your life that had a significant effect on you or that changed your views in some important way. Choose one of the following topics or one that you think of on your own.
An experience that caused you to learn something about yourself
An incident that revealed the true character of someone you knew
An experience that helped you discover a principle to live by
An experience that explains the personal significance of a particular object
An incident that has allowed you to develop an appreciation or awareness of your ethnic identity
While you may frame the narrative with an introduction paragraph providing background information and a concluding paragraph with your reflections on what occurred, the event itself is to take place over a time period of no longer than twenty-four hours.
The narrative essay is one that does two things. 1) It relays a story in a captivating fashion; and 2) It does so for a purpose (the thesis).
Think of your narrative as an extended example (the story) to persuade a point (the thesis).
I will be grading on:
Is the thesis clear
Does the narrative support the thesis
Are all points in the narrative relevant to the thesis
Does it have a captivating: a) title, b) lead (opening sentence), c) event
Grammar and paragraph unity
