Write a paper about a historical social movement in New York City. For example, you could write about a specific social movement in New York City civil rights movement, gay rights movement, womens movement, the Latino activist group called the Young Lords). Another topic is the rich history of community murals in New York City by researching the organizations/artists that created them, and examine the social struggles and issues that the murals were part of (KCC library has a very good book on NYC community murals. On the Wall: Four Decades of Community Murals in New York City, in reference section, ND2638 N4 B63). There are lots of other examples of social movements in NYC and I can suggest some to you. One issue is that I prefer you not to try to cover something huge and instead focus on a specific aspect or moment in the history of the social movement. For example, instead of trying to write about the entire civil rights movement in NYC, focus a specific aspect of it such as looking at the role of black women or Latino women in the NYC civil rights movement. Or the role of black artists in it in the 1960s and 1970s. Or instead of writing about the entire LBGTQ civil rights struggle in NYC, look at a specific moment..
Option 2: Related to option 2, you could pick a particular moment or even an event in NYC history that you would like to explore more. For example, we will discuss the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s some and you could explore that more in a paper. Or maybe you are interested in looking at the experience of a particular immigrant group to NYC. The possibilities are endless
