Write a paper about what you think you will be like when you are 70+ years of age. Rather than simply giving your own thoughts, you will be required to use information taken from the lecture. You will need to discuss generativity vs stagnation, intergrity theory and the these following conceppts crystallized intellingence, reminicence and liveviewing.
Discuss the EACH of the following in your paper:
What will you be like physically, psychologically, professionally (career wise: mine will be engineering)?
What do you imagine will happen with your family life( two kids a girl and boy)?
What types of activities will you participate in or no longer be able to engage in?
What impairments might you have (cognitive, physical, social, etc.)?
Where will you be living? How will you be supporting yourself or who will be supporting you ( living home with my kids)
Pay attention to these points as you are writing your letter:
In the first paragraph, tell me how old the person you’re writing to is. The assignment guidelines say 70+, so you could be any age over 70 (e.g., 75, 82, 93, 100! (or even more). Keep the age you chose in mind when choosing concepts to integrate. For instance, if you’re writing this letter is to your 75-year old self, you should not be talking about conditions that are experienced by those 80 and above.
Also, like the previous letter that you wrote, be sure to explain the concepts while tying them to things about yourself. Simply copying the definitions that are on the slide and putting them in your letter is not enough because that does not show me that you have a deep grasp of the concept. You must give me examples from your life that explains the concept beyond what is said on the slides. For example, if you are talking about feeling “integrity”, just saying “at age 80, I feel integrity and I’m satisfied with how I lived my life” is not enough. You must give me examples from your life that illustrate why you’re feeling integrity. This way I can assess if you actually know where feelings of integrity come from!
Although we talked about physical/cognitive development and socioemotional development in separate chapters, when you’re talking about yourself in the letter, these three aspects should come together. So, for instance, if you’re talking about the possibility of having Alzheimer’s disease, you must tell me how this disease is impacting your socioemotional development (e.g. relationships). How are you managing your day to day activities with this disorder? Who’s taking care of you? Where do you live now that you have this disease?
The style of this letter will be descriptive, meaning you will write what you think life is like at age 70+ (e.g., “at 70, I am a retired nurse and live with my daughter”). Avoid using “hope”, e.g., don’t say I hope I am a retired nurse, or I hope I can still take care of myself. Tell me what you think you’ll be, not what you hope to be.
Pay attention to the organization of your letter.
