Write a paper applying Van Dijk’s CDA framework to the analysis of news texts

Van Dijk’s CDA framework to the analysis of news texts. In our “course
materials” folder you will find two news texts dating back to February
2020. Text 3.1. comes from the Russian newspaper, which is the official
mouthpiece and newspaper of record of the Russian government. Text 3.2. comes
from the internet-based news outlet Gazeta.RU. The texts discuss the same piece
of news – an apology provided by high-profile church leaders with the Russian
Orthodox Church (ROC). They are apologizing for the utterance made by another
high-profile Orthodox church leader. This is an unusual situation and it
requires the journalists (at least one of them) to structure their texts in an
unusual way.
· Which of these two
texts represents/exemplifies ideological discourse? Why? Please provide
evidence from the texts following Van Dijk’s framework for analyzing
ideological discourse (you can find it in the article “Ideology and
Discourse Analysis”, which was our reading for Week 2). I would like you
to follow Van Dijk’s framework as closely as possible on all 3 levels the way
we did it during our classes. The more evidence from the texts you provide, the
higher your grade will be.
· Which of these two
texts realizes/implements social dominance and why? Please, use Van Dijk’s
understanding of social dominance in order to answer this question.
