Where did the issue start?
What caused it?
How long has this issue existed?
Briefly, who is involved in the issue? That is, who all is it affecting?
Briefly, what are opposing viewpoints on the controversial issue?
Briefly, what is the significance/importance of the issue? That is, why is the issue worth discussing?
REMEMBER: The LAST sentence of the introduction paragraph is your THESIS STATEMENT in the “Although/because” formula you have already submitted–and revised, according to instructor feedback.
Here is last sentence in my thesis statement.

Although some people believe
that pipelines pose too many risks to the health and safety of the
environment, pipelines are the most efficient and economical ways to move
resources because they boost the U.S. economy and they
reduce dependence on oil from the Middle East.
