Write a Paper – God and Justice

Prompt: If God exists, God must be just.
In your midterm, comprehensive paper, talk about what the prompt might mean as you address the following topics and ideas:
Moral Order
Monism / The Forms
The Cave
Stoicism
The Problem of Evil
Proofs for the Existence of God
Skepticism
Freedom
Epistemic Responsibility
The main thing I am looking for in your writing is your philosophical competence. What does that entail?
1) It requires foundational mastery of the content: basic definitions, key concepts, philosophical problems, core arguments, etc.
2) It requires certain skills: reading comprehension, intellectual curiosity, critical reflection, analysis (taking ideas apart), and creative synthesis (bringing ideas together).
The prompt and required topics are meant to test these two components of philosophical competence.
Other than your philosophical competence, there are two other things I’m looking for in your writing:
1) Clear Logical Structure: Your entire paper must be one coherent, clear, and cohesive, well-formed argument in support of your thesis. Substantively discuss the stated topics/ideas above as you creatively reflect on and support your thesis. Support your claims with substantive references to our course materials (see #2 below). Be intentional as you develop the logical structure and organization of your paper, constantly bringing the arguments back around to support your thesis.
In support of this criterion, you must actually state a concise thesis statement relative to the prompt, which must be stated in bold in the first paragraph of your paper. You will want to think carefully and reflectively before finalizing your response to the prompt. Note: A thesis is the claim that you intend to argue for in your paper. The more clear and specific your thesis is, the more direction you will have for your paper.
