Write a paper on the Child Welfare Advocacy.Pick a policy issue that is connected to Child Welfare.
Do research on this issue to analyze this policy issue with a critical lens. You will be required to cite any references used.
Pick either Illinois state representative or senator.
Do research as to why you selected this legislator. Provide how this legislator has responded to your issue/population in the past (e.g. political support, past votes on issue, etc.)
Once you are familiar with your representative, schedule an in-district virtual meeting with them or a staffer. This meeting can be by Zoom or phone.
Keep a phone call log of the times you have attempted to reach out to your representative. Be persistent! You most likely will not talk to anyone the first time you call. If you have attempted to call 5 times and still have not heard from them, please approach your field faculty for an alternative.
Make a fact sheet, which includes citations, to bring to your meeting with your representative.
Final Paper on the experience:
The paper should include the following:
Description and background of the issue you lobbied for
Description of who your legislator is and your experience meeting with your
legislator/staff, etc.

Reflection on experience: What lessons did you learn about advocacy and Illinois politics?
Include phone log
Include fact sheet with citations that you brought to conversation with politician.
