-a thesis statement is DIRECT, meaning it addresses the prompt, SPECIFIC, meaning it gives a preview of structure and sources, and EVALUATIVE, meaning it makes an historical claim.
Sample: The study of world history has been limited by its Eurocentric tendencies and has therefore both failed to capture the full complexities of interconnected societies, but has also elevated one set of cultural norms and values over all others. However, framing world history through the lens of family, kinship, and gender, the issue of Eurocentricity is alleviated [this takes care of part 1, and functions as the DIRECT portion] through micro-scale analysis, a critical interrogation of laws and institutions, and a reconsideration of “normal” by historicizing the construction of the family. Scholarly focus on family and gender throughout history is necessary to counter the Eurocentric tendencies within world history.
